Hot Mimi's After a Cold Run

I ran another 5 miles on Friday night to make it a 14 mile day. My stomach was a little off, but I feel the slow easy runs are doing my body good.

I ran from the GRC on Saturday morning with 19 other GRCers. We headed north along the Towpath for 35 minutes and came back in 31. We had a great pack and it felt good pinballing between the different runners mushing along the powdered trail. I added 10 minutes to my total and called it 11. A large group of us then went to Mimi's which has become a Saturday tradition for me. Mimi's is a simple grocery mart on MacArthur Bldv in the chic Palisades section of DC. I wandered in there once with Bain looking for Gatorade and was pleasantly surprised to find a short order cook flipping delicious eggs on a diner-like skillet. Grease from yesterday's cheese steaks mixing with freshly cooked eggs was enough to make my mouth water. Bain and I each ordered a sandwich and devoured it in the car. The next week we came back and this time we each ordered two. I've been trying to work up to 3 egg sandwiches but I fear that a heart attack would be imminent. Anyways, the egg sandwiches are fantastic. Charlie Ban equated these snacktastic eats to "Frenching God's sister...HARD". I am not sure exactly what that means but suffice to say, he enjoyed it.

On Sunday, I hit up The Line for what was supposed to be 18 miles. We had another solid group. Karl and I had talked about doing something "on" during the run, so we hammered back from the park police prison cell (at the corner of Military/beach...or simply where Towpath's confiscated airguns are kept) back to The Line. The last 400m was basically an all out sprint, without going into the red zone. The cold air made the run, and the workout, pretty tough. We gathered back up with the group and then ran Reaves-like around the stables. I was pretty spent and called it a day after 1:52. This was probably good for 17.

85 miles last week. This seems comfortable right now and I think I can uptick the weekly total with an extra morning run or two. Next week is a down week, but then I'll try to get into the low 90s. I am not sure how much further north I'll go based on past experiences when running over 90. We shall see...

I've been digitizing my early videotapes and pretty soon I'll come across the epic footage were DC police surround my friends and I while we are clad in army and swat team gear holding 1:1 scale M-16s and MP-5s. I'll send you I link once I find it.

Why didn't you simply RUN from the cops?

They raided the construction site that we were filming in from 2 sides so we were surrounded. Plus, their guns were drawn. (Apparently we were close to Madeline Albright's house in georgetown and they assumed we were terrorists)

I love chicken tenders more than any man or woman, but I have to say that I've never thought of eating even the BEST chicken tenders (which come from Bennigan's) to be equal to frenching God's sister HARD. That is an epic comparison.
